Mikey nodded at the Mal's and her father's explanations. Most of the rules seemed to just be common sense, with an underlying feeling of, "Just obey the captain and things will be shiny". She had no problem with obeying authority, after all this was his ship.
She smiled and said, "Shiny. As for weapons, I've got a pistol and real basic shooting knowledge. Could always use a brush up on that though, if someone's willin' t'teach me."
"These 'runs'...how many do you do normally and if you let us in on them, what is the cut we would receive?"

"I don't really know anything about guns, but I do have one of my father's that I kept after he and Mom died. Probably could have gotten money for it, but I never sold it. Could use some training myself like Mikey. I am pretty handy in a fistfight though, just from livin' on the streets for a time."
He didn't ask the question he was thinking, because Mikey thought ahead and asked it for him.

*Murray glanced to the floor. She hadn't really meantioned what she could or couldn't do to Lex and Mikey. Mostly because she didn't want to talk about her family or past. She rubbed her arm a bit*
I know how to use Alliance weaponary...my father taught me. *Her voice was a whisper as she spoke* But I also know how to operate most Assualt rifles.

We do as many as we can, whenever we can get them. Havin' a slight speed bump in gettin' one at the moment. *He shrugged again, glancing to the kids* Same as rest of the crew. Divided up evenly between the lot of 'you. So let's see...*He thought for a moment* So...11 ways
*He nodded his head as Mikey and Lex stated what they could and couldn't do* Well Jayne and I can teach you. As can Zoe, she's handy with a Carbine Rifle.
*He frowned when Murray spoke though. He raised an eyebrow at her* You know 'Lliance weaponary? *He glanced towards Jayne. No Alliance kid would be living on the streets*

Jayne frowned at the same time Mal did. "You come from an Alliance family, darlin'? How come yer livin' on the streets then?" To anyone else, he would have been much harsher in what he had asked, but because she was a nice kid, and one of his daughter's best friends, he knew he had to be a bit more polite to her.
"It'd be no problem teachin' ya the things I know," he said to the other two. "Wouldn't take more'n a couple days once we hit planetside next."

Mikey noticed the tension in Mal's shoulders and in his voice when Murray mentioned the Alliance. She was a little surprised she didn't know about that fact about her friend. She was a little curious too as to why Murray was living on the streets with her and Lex if that were the case.

Lex looked at Murray, his brows furrowing a bit. He had a feeling he was thinking the same thing the other were. Why was she not at the Academy with all those other Alliance brats? His father had supported the Alliance but his mother was vehement against it. He had taken after her, once he learned about the details of the Unification War, and especially of the Battle of Serenity Valley.
'Captain must be a veteran,' he thought, looking at the man in a new light.

*She didn't look up. She knew her friends well enough to know they were staring at her. She shifted slightly, her hands behind her back* Ran away *It was simple as that. There was no more to the story really. Well, there was, but it didn't need to be discussed.* When I was old enough too, that is.
*She dared a glance up after she spoke*

*Mal watched her carefully as she spoke, still tipped back on the hind legs of his chair. He took in a breath* Most kids don't run 'way with out a reason. *Curiosity was getting to him and he knew he shouldn't pry. The girl couldn't have been more then 17. No matter what the reason, she probably didn't want to discuss it. So he let it go. He shifted, his chair hitting the floor, resting his arms on the table*

Jayne watched silently as the exchange between Mal and the kids took place. He noticed how Mal backed off but he personally wanted to know more.
"Why'd ya leave, darlin'?" he asked, as nicely as he could. He really did want to know why.

"You don't have t'tell us if you don't want to, Murr," Mikey said, placing a hand on her friend's shoulder. She did want to know, but she didn't want to pry.

*She smiled towards Mikey, pressing the plate she had been drying against her chest. She sighed, shaking her head* Maybe sometime...I'd really rather not right now...
*She wasn't too comfortable telling Jayne or Mal just yet. If she was going to discuss it with anyone, it'd be Mikey and Lex first. Those were the people she trusted and her real family as far as she was concerned*

That's perfectly fine, 'Ray *Kaylee spoke up. She gave a glance in Jayne and Mal's direction, really hoping they'd leave it be*
But if you ever need a talkin', we'd be glad to listen. Any of us *She gave the girl a soft smile*

*Malcolm just nodded his head, not saying anything. He glanced back to the table, looking at the blue flowers that were painted around the edges, studying them with slight interest*

Jayne nodded but didn't say anything. He really did want to know more, but he knew why the girl wasn't saying anything. She didn't trust them yet and who could blame her? She just met them today.
