Mikey was setting up the space in her new room. She and the other two had pretty much packed up their whole flat in less than an hour, stopping only once to give notice to the landlord and giving back the key.
She had taken the upper passenger dorm, across from Murray, while Lex had snagged the lower one across from River's room. She looked around the room and smiled, feeling like she was already home. In a place where she really belonged.
Mikey reached into her suitcase on the bed, that already had her old patched comforter on top of the firm mattress, grabbing a red folded up lantern from one of the inside pockets. She had a feeling that she'd sleep like a baby that evening.

Jayne was moving through the ship, coming from the kitchen with two apples, one that already had a bite taken out of it. He'd put away the cargo that Wash had unloaded a little while ago, and after working out some, had discovered he was very hungry. While he was in the kitchen, he heard the kids moving their things in. 'Loud, chatterin' things, ain't they?' he thought to himself.
He was passing by the upper dorms when he saw Mikey moving around in her room. He knocked on the doorframe and opened it. "Am I interruptin' anythin'?" he asked.

She turned around when she heard his voice, giving him a small smile. "Think I can manage. Don' have that much t'begin with anyway." She sighed and put the family picture she had on her small dresser, touching it softly.
Mikey looked at the apple in his hand and asked, "You gonna eat that?"

He watched as she put the picture of them as a family up, feeling a tug in his gut when he saw it. It only reminded him of what he could have had had he stayed with them.
Jayne held out the extra apple he'd grabbed. "You can have it," he said. "Already started on this'un anyway."

"Xie xie," she said, taking the apple from him. "Haven't had one of these...in a long time." She pulled a small pocketknife and sliced a piece off, putting it in her mouth, smiling as she crunched down into it. "It's real crunchy too. Best thing 'bout eatin' an apple is the crunch."

"Wash picked up some fresh fruit with the rest of the supplies we got t'day. We all best eat 'em soon, else they'll turn soft. Yer right 'bout apples bein' crunchy. Only way t'eat 'em," he said, taking another bite from his apple.
"Where are the other two?" he asked her.

"Think they're unpackin' still. Gettin' a feel of the ship if not," she said. "Murray took the dorm across the way," she said, pointing behind him, "an' Lex has the one above me, across from...that girl River."
The question had been nagging at her all day, though it had been partly answered earlier on in the kitchen. "...An' speakin' of her...what's...I mean...." she sighed and looked at him. "Are you two...you know? Prob'ly not my business, but, I feel I have a right t'know."

"I see," he said, nodding.
When she asked the question about him and River, he sighed a little, knowing that it would come up. "Well, we've kissed...an' I know she's pretty young fer me, but, I like her. A lot."
"Don't know if it makes ya uncomfortable, but that's how it is."

She didn't say anything as he spoke, taking all of his words in. "It does make me a bit uncomfortable to be honest," she finally said, looking up at him. "I mean...she's my age, yeah? It's kind of....odd."
"But," she said, continuing, "if you like her, then it's...good." She cleared her throat and said, "I think I'm goin' t'make some rice, explore more of the ship." That was her way of getting out of uncomfortable situations. Changing the subject and leaving wherever she was to go do something else. It usually involved food.

Jayne didn't blame her for being uncomfortable about this, so when she said she wanted to go get some more food, even though her apple only had one bite in it. He nodded and said, "Alright. I'll see ya sometime later, Michelle."
With that, he turned and left her dorm, going down the hall.
