*Malcolm had been in his own little world when he boarded Serenity. It didn't phase him that odd voices were coming from areas in ship, he didn't notice the laughter. He went straight for his bunk, putting away the item he had purchased at the stall, fully planning to give it to Nara once she returned. Along with an apology...and her food.
Once he put the item away, he climbed up the ladder, food in his free hand. He needed to put it in the storage unit, so it wouldn't spoil. They couldn' afford to buy food and let it go to waste. The closer he got to the dining hall, the louder the voices got. He blinked...he was definitly hearing girls voices. That weren't any of his crew. He frowned, stepping into the kitchen, blinking at what he saw* Uh...

Jayne had just finished laughing at a joke his daughter had finished saying. She and Murray had been entertaining them for most of the evening with things they had done and people they knew. Even Lex had loosened up and was joining in on the fun.
He had been looking at River across the room all night. She had opted to sit with her brother and Kaylee in order to try and patch things up. It had apparently worked because Simon was giving his sister random hugs all evening.
Jayne turned at the sound of footsteps entering the room. He groaned inwardly at the look on Mal's face. "Hey Mal," he said, trying not to stutter over his words. "We saved you some dinner if yer hungry."
Please let him not notice the three strangers in the room.

*He held the box up to show he was well set when it came to the dinner issue. But his eyes were stuck on the three teenagers sitting near Jayne. He raised an eyebrow, immediatly shifting towards Jayne, looking for answers. Kaylee would simply say something about friendship and kindness, and he was in no mood for that. *
So, mind tellin' me what in the gorram hell is this? *He shifted, setting the boxes on the counter, before crossing his arms.*

Mikey was getting ready to start in on another story when she saw the man walk into the room, who she assumed was the captain because of the way her father immediately looked uncomfortable with the man's prescence.
So, mind tellin' me what in the gorram hell is this?
She figured she would save her dad some awkwardness, at least for the moment, and say it herself. "Dad invited us for dinner."

'Gorramit!' he thought, after Mikey said those words. He had wanted to tell Mal, but in his own good time. The only good thing about all this is that it wasn't delayed any more.
Now he could face Mal's probable wrath right away and not have to put it off.

*His attention shifted to the girl who spoke up. She couldn't have been any more then a year younger then River. She had a certain apperance to her...her features very similar. He blinked, before glancing to Jayne with a slightly confused look.
His eyes scanned over the man, then back to the girl. They were strikingly familiar. He took in a breath, then looked to the other two.* Did he then? *He said in a typical confused Malcolm tone.* You got a name, little girl? *He gave her a small smile, his arms unfolding*

She chose to ignore the "little" comment and said, "My name's Michelle, called Mikey for short." She pointed at her friends and went on with, "He is Alexander, Lex for short and she is Muireann, Murray for short."
She saw the way he was looking back and forth between herself and Jayne and hoped he had either heard her earlier or was making the connection in his own mind.
She didn't really want to have to repeat herself.

Those two aren't yours too are they Jayne? *His attention shifted back to Jayne, his focus remaining on him for the moment*

"No!" he said incredulously. "They's her friends. Why would you think I had three kids?"

Last I checked, you didn't have any. It's a perfectly sane question. *His tone shifted, to a little more cold then it had been when he was speaking to the girl. He took in a breath, before looking back to Mikey* Well...you all enjoy your dinner. I need to speak with Jayne alone
*He glanced back to Jayne, over his shoulder* Bridge...now *He snapped in a low voice*

The tone in Mal's voice brooked no room for argument, so Jayne did as he was told, following the captain to the bridge where they could talk in semi-privacy.
And hopefully it wouldn't result in Jayne's immediate and painful death. Besides the fact that Mal didn't know about Jayne's daughter, he also didn't know about his new relationship with River.
This was going to be an all manner of fun conversation.

*Kaylee watched as the two men left, before speaking up*
Well that didn't go too bad *She smiled to the kids. She motioned to the rice bowl* More rice?
